A little about me:
Well, to start, I was born and raised in Southern California. I’m probably one of the few people who hate it here; I don’t like the sun or the beach, I’d rather it be cold, cloudy, rainy or even snowy. I have had a fairly successful career track and have learned a lot through the thick and thin; things that school could never teach a person. I personally believe hands-on experience is the best way to attain and retain knowledge; of course, school does have its place; so I did a bit of that here and there and got my A.S. a few years back.
A couple other things to touch on, I am married to Cindy and lovin’ it. I have a dog, he is a Pomeranian named Little Bear. I am really into video games (I may even make one someday soon). I like to listen to music and on the rare occasion, to play it. My favorite band is Coheed and Cambria (shout out to my brothers and sisters among the fence).
What I do:
In short, I develop websites and web-based business productivity tools. In depth, most of my work over the years has revolved around PHP and I heart it. I heart it quite a bit, but I am also working on enriching my skills and branching out to learn alternate development technologies. Namely .NET because I have a plan, and this is a plan I must stick to.
I have worked quite a bit with SugarCRM; customizing and hacking the hell out of it, until one day I decided to write my own CRM on a limited timeline with moderate to great success, depending on who you talked to. Of course, it wasn’t perfect or as full featured (dare I say bloated?) as SugarCRM, but it definitely worked for the business’ needs. I loved and hated that project; loved the challenge and the on-the-spot decisions but I hated the stress.
Prior to developing I did IT related things: server management, tech support and owned a business while I was at it. I really enjoyed it, it was my passion, but now developing has consumed my life, it feels awesome to me to be able to create software that accommodates business needs and in most cases facilitates company growth. That means a better bottom line and I graciously continue to be employed. In addition, I also like not being a bill collector, so having a full time job makes me feel warm and fuzzy inside.
Why I am here:
I have had a hateful relationship with my blogs as it turns out, mostly because I neglect them and never seem to get anywhere with them. I am now trying to look at it differently though. In my traversing of the interweb, trying to find helpful bits of information when I am doing research or trying to learn, I stumble upon some really helpful people who graciously post how they accomplished something that I could not figure out. It makes me so happy to have some sort of validation that I was on the right track, and even happier that I have a solution staring out at me.
Well, I figure that I now have enough information, at least about web development, to give back to others who may need help. So through my findings and trial-and-error, I will post some nifty things, mostly related to development in the following categories:
- PHP
- MySQL
- jQuery
- C#
