So I am loving my new computer, but hating Vista. What is new? I get to order my “free” upgrade to Windows 7 on the 22nd, so I am not customizing the system like I normally would after a fresh install because I will be wiping the system and doing a clean install. I hate all the unecessary bullshit computer vendors pre-install on the system, as I never use any of it.

Anyway, so the other day when I said I was going to put my nVidia card into my new computer, I did so. Of course, with my luck, it does not work for some reason. I played with it for twenty or thirty minutes and could not get any display out of it, even though it was powered. Whatever, but I have an issue. I need my dual screens. Luckily the computer came with a VGA and HDMI port. What I did not have was an HDMI port on either of my monitors, nor a DVI to HDMI cable. I decided to see how much they cost, and it is $39.99 at Staples, damn. After searching for a bit, I found this really great website: svideo.com. I ordered the same cable I could have gotten from Staples for, $7.95 and free shipping through USPS. I got the part two days later and now I am able to be more productive!

I cannot believe the deal I got, so I had to post about it. The good people at svideo.com do not advertise so I decided to give them a bit of a plug, so if you are looking for quality video cable converters, audio converters, etc. check these guys out.

So a month or so before we moved my computer, herein “Essential Business Tool”, started acting up. It was running slow, locking up consistently, even after a complete reload. It would work for a while, stop working, etc. I put in a couple hundred dollars trying to fix the issues but it only served as a band-aid as the issues kept arising, even when running a brand-new and legal install of Windows 7.

Not wanting to spend more money on a lost cause, I decided I needed to get a new computer. I chose Dell since I have never, until recently, had issues with them. When I say recent issues, I am talking about their business-to-business sales. They have been giving our company a really hard time and sometimes lack of communication…

Anyway, the order started out pretty shitty. They put it on hold and threatened to cancel the order because I was shipping to my office rather than my home. Yes, I get it, they want to protect themselves from fraud, but the fucker from India calls, threatens to cancel the order if I do not call back within two hours. After I have that resolved I never get any sort of notification that my order has shipped. I had to call to get a tracking number, and they tell me the delivery is scheduled for the 26th. Fine, I wait. Realizing that I should have received the package by now, today the 29th, and no updates on the FedEx tracking since initial shipment, I get worried.

I called FedEx to start a trace on the package, they kindly told me I need to call Dell, give them the provided case number and have a new unit shipped out because they are deeming it lost, and if they find it, they will only send it back to Dell. Yes, I should be mad at FedEx for possibly losing or misplacing the shipment but I am really pissed how Dell this situation. I called the Dell Order Support to let them know of the issue, the asshat puts me on hold then tells me to give them 48 hours to get an update on the tracking. I told him that I have a FedEx case number and that they will not, even if they find the package, send it to me and that I should get a replacement from Dell. He said he would not take the number unless I call back in 48 hours.

FUCK THAT! I have been waiting a near god damned month for a new Essential Business Tool. I have not been able to work as much as I have needed on my projects, I hate working on laptops. So I found a way to report missing items from an order, they also give you the option to report a lost order. I did so, online, and told them if I do not have a resolution I will no longer do business with them and will go elsewhere for my needs.

So I will probably end up telling them to stick it up their ass, call my credit card company and issue a charge-back and go buy from HP and contribute to increasing their market share, unless Dell decides to give me a substantial discount for handling this so poorly.
